Cherimoya
Snow White Cherimoya
Characteristics:
-
Appearance: Cutting open the scaly or slightly bumpy green skin reveals striking, snow-white juicy flesh.
-
Seeds: The white pulp is dotted with numerous inedible, glossy black or brown bean-like seeds.
-
Flavor Profile: It offers a sweet, aromatic, and tropical taste that blends notes of banana, pineapple, strawberry, and vanilla.
-
Texture: The texture is luxuriously smooth and melting, resembling a cool custard.
How to Eat:
-
Desserts: The sweet pulp works wonderfully in smoothies, ice creams, juices, and fruit salads. A classic South American preparation is Chirimoya Alegre (cheerful cherimoya), where seeded pieces of the fruit are mixed fresh with orange juice.
-
Ripening: Buy them firm and green like a stone, then let them sit at room temperature for a few days until they yield slightly to gentle pressure and smell fragrant.
